Suspicious device during house clearance in Helston deemed non-threatening

Nearby buildings, including a school, were evacuated as a precaution

A suspicious device discovered during a house clearance in Carey Park, Helston, prompted the evacuation of nearby buildings, including Helston Community College.

The discovery was made around midday on 12th March, leading to the establishment of a cordon around the property for safety reasons.

Police worked alongside an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who determined that the items were bird scarers rather than dangerous devices.

Devon and Cornwall Police told us: “Police were notified at around midday on Thursday 12 March, following the discovery of a suspicious device located during a house clearance on Carey Park, Helston.

"A cordon was put in place around the property as a precaution.

"The EOD attended the scene, and the items have since been confirmed as bird scarers.”

Nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution, but the devices posed no actual danger according to authorities.
