Skybus services between Cornwall Airport Newquay and St Mary’s Airport have been suspended until the 31st August due to 'operational challenges'.

The decision comes amidst a shortage of both aircraft and qualified pilots, affecting the airline's ability to maintain service reliability during the busy summer period.

Passengers with existing bookings will be transferred to flights departing from Land’s End Airport on the same date, without needing to take any action themselves.

According to Skybus, all affected customers will be contacted in date order with updates on flight times.

To mitigate the impact, the airline offers complimentary parking at Land’s End Airport, refunding any fare differences, and providing a voucher for Land’s End Airport Café.

Skybus has assured that connectivity to the islands is vital, especially during summertime, and the decision aims to offer dependable services by concentrating resources at Land’s End.

The airline's Exeter schedule remains unchanged.

A spokesperson told customers: "We understand that this change will have an impact on visitors, residents, businesses and the wider community.

"Connectivity is vital to the islands, particularly during the summer months, and we do not underestimate the importance of maintaining reliable transport links.

"This decision has been made to ensure that we can operate a dependable and sustainable service for our passengers.

"By concentrating most of our available aircraft and crews on services from Land’s End, we can provide greater reliability and reduce the risk of further disruption during the peak travel period.

"For the avoidance of doubt our existing Exeter schedule will be retained.

"We are working intensively to strengthen our operation, increase resilience and return to a position where we can offer the level of service our passengers and the community rightly expect.

"On behalf of everyone at Skybus and Isles of Scilly Travel, thank you for your patience and understanding.

"We remain fully committed to serving the Isles of Scilly and to ensuring that everyone booked to travel can continue their journey."
