A 67-year-old man who repeatedly stole water filters from branches of Morrisons in Peterborough and St Ives has been jailed.
Tony Isaac's water filter pilfering began on 5 December, when he went to the supermarkets' Needingworth Road branch in St Ives, and concealed three Brita filters in a black shopping bag.
Isaac, of Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, paid for other items at the checkouts but did not pay for the filters.
Between that day and January 10, he would return to the shop five more times to steal filters.
Isaac also stole filters in the same manner from Morrisons in Lincoln Road, Walton, Peterborough, on 26 December and 5 January.
Officers arrested Isaac at his home on Saturday (17 January), where they discovered roughly 200 filters worth thousands of pounds in his house and car.
Isaac admitted seven counts of theft from a shop and was jailed for 24 weeks at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday (19 January).
Cambridgeshire Constabulary reported the news on their website under the headline: "Water way to end up in jail".
PC Charlie Brett said: “The number of filters found at Isaacs home and car demonstrated the scale of the operation he was involved in. We believe he was stealing them in order to sell them online.
“His crimes were pre-planned and targeted. He knew exactly what he was going to steal and used a tactic he thought would mean he escaped justice.”
