Protest as Trelawney Road trees in Falmouth felled
Local campaigners have been trying to save the trees for months
Around 40 people have taken part in a protest against the felling of trees on Trelawney Road in Falmouth.
Work by Cornwall Council to remove the three trees started today after months of protests by local campaigners opposing the plans.
The council announced last month that the trees would be chopped down in December after an independent ecological survey was carried out to check there were no nesting birds or roasting bats.
Police say they were deployed to Falmouth today (December 8) "to enable peaceful protest and facilitate lawful activity from Cornwall Council."
Officers say one protestor suffered a bump to the head after being stopped by police for allegedly trying to get into a secured area.
She was checked by paramedics at the scene and did not need further treatment.
Devon and Cornwall Police say a complaint has been made in relation to this and it will be investigated.
Police added that no arrests were made.
