Today marks the anniversary of the passing of Joe Way, but the legacy of this much-loved son continues to unite and inspire people across Cornwall and beyond.

Joe tragically passed away at the tender age of four in 2008, yet his spirit lives on through the "Joe Way Paddle for Life," an event that has evolved into a remarkable celebration of life, resilience, and generosity.

The Joe Way Paddle for Life is set to take place on Thursday 18th June 2026 at Newquay Harbour.

Initially made to bring family, friends, and RNLI together in remembrance, the annual paddle has since raised a remarkable £188,000, supporting charities that make tangible differences for individuals and families.

Participants from all backgrounds come together each year with a shared purpose: to honour Joe's memory in a meaningful way that embraces positivity and community spirit.

We spoke to Joe's dad Matt about what this event means to his family:

"And for us, that is how we are keeping Joe's legacy alive. Its such a fun day and there's a real special atmosphere. Getting to see different generations doing the event is really heart warming for us as a family."

"Joe was a special little boy and we were lucky to have him, he was such a little fighter."

Beyond fundraising, the event is a testament to connection and hope, annually drawing locals, visitors, and supporters together.

As the anniversary is commemorated today, Joe's family once again extends an invitation to participate by paddling, supporting on the day, or contributing from afar, ensuring that Joe's legacy continues to make a difference.
