Open Spaces Society registers land as common in Cornwall
Land recovery marks a significant step in protection efforts
A planning inspector has granted the Open Spaces Society's application to register approximately 3.8 hectares of land as common land in Cornwall.
The land, situated about 1.5 miles east of St Just, comprises areas of heather and gorse and adjoins land already recognised as common.
In 1968, Tregeseal and Bosvarges Common was provisionally registered as common land. However, following objections and modifications, only part of the land was officially registered.
The Commons Act 2006 reopened the opportunity to reclaim lost commons under specific circumstances, prompting the society to demonstrate the land's status as manorial waste for registration as common.
Frances Kerner, the commons re-registration officer for the Open Spaces Society, said: “We are very pleased that the land excluded under the Commons Registration Act 1965 has now been reunited with the rest of Tregeseal and Bosvarges Common and that it will be protected long into the future.”
