A new red panda arrives at Paradise Park in Cornwall

Paradise Park is buzzing with excitement this summer as Freyja, the latest Red Panda, arrives from Copenhagen Zoo.
Born on 5th July 2025, Freyja is part of an international breeding programme for Red Pandas—a species facing threats in the wild. Her companion, Rollo, is set to join the park from France soon.
David Woolcock, the park's curator, shared insight into Freyja's first days: "She’s been exploring her new enclosure and seems curious and calm. We're keeping her crate around to help her settle at her own pace. She’s already charming the team, and we hope visitors will spot her out and about.”
Keeper Emma chose the name Freyja inspired by the Norse goddess associated with love, beauty, and magic. Connecting beautifully with the name Rollo, which is tied to Norse history, these choices celebrate the pair’s Danish and French origins
Red Pandas are known for their climbing skills, distinctive russet fur, and long bushy tails, making them a favourite among visitors.
Families might also spot Jai-Li, another beloved Red Panda resident, who celebrated her 15th birthday in June. Having arrived at Paradise Park in 2012, Jai-Li has been instrumental in breeding efforts, raising seven cubs over the years.
Habitat loss and fragmentation endanger these charming animals in the wild.
Paradise Park say they remain committed to supporting breeding projects and raising awareness about Red Pandas to maintain healthy populations.
Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary has contributed £20,720 to the Red Panda Network over the last decade, supported by the Red Panda Experience programme. Contributions have gone towards initiatives like the ‘Red Panda Protected Forest,’ the world’s first protected area just for Red Pandas, and the ‘Plant A Red Panda Home’ campaign, responsible for planting 15,113 trees.
