Cornish Metals has provided a significant update on the South Crofty Tin Project, reporting strong progress across various workstreams, essential for transitioning towards operational readiness in Cornwall.

According to Cornish Metals CEO Don Turvey, advancements have been made above ground, with the new Cook's Kitchen offices now operational and the workshop and store facilities nearing completion at the site of the former Bartles Foundry. Additionally, construction at Roskear shaft is progressing, with the winder house structure now complete.

Underground Developments

The South Crofty project is also witnessing major developments underground, particularly at the NCK shaft where dewatering efforts are making headway.

Currently moving towards the 400-level, approximately 730 metres below the surface, the initiative marks an essential phase in reclaiming the site after 28 years.

Pre-production development at the 290-level is now slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, succeeding initial expectations for the third quarter.

The plans include an underground drilling programme and vital infrastructure initiatives earmarked to support the workforce's capabilities.

Engineering and Infrastructure

Civil works and excavation activities at the pre-concentration facility are at 50% completion, part of a wider infrastructure programme designed to enhance South Crofty’s operational capacity.

The completion of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the process plant, and continuing detailed engineering, led by Ausenco, marks a key milestone.

The company anticipates that overall engineering efforts will reach completion by year-end.

Leadership Transition

Cornish Metals is also in the final stages of recruiting a new independent Non-Executive Director, following Ken Armstrong’s retirement, in a move aimed at bolstering corporate governance.

With the project aiming to establish itself as a significant tin producer, the company plans to leverage existing infrastructure and local support to secure a domestic supply of tin within the UK.
