Love Your Beach: Cornwall communities unite for Valentine’s weekend clean-ups

This Valentine’s weekend, Cornwall residents are showing their love for the county’s coastline by taking part in the annual Love Your Beach community beach clean events.

Taking place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th February 2026, the events invite locals and visitors to help clear litter, plastics, and other marine waste from beaches across Cornwall.

With recent storms leaving debris scattered along the coast, these clean-ups are particularly important this year.

The picturesque Readymoney Beach near Fowey has been hit hard, with piles of ghost fishing gear and other marine waste washing ashore.

Local volunteers, including the Beach Guardian team, have already stepped in to remove what they can, but the events provide an opportunity for the wider community to help tackle the problem.

Katie, Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Community Engagement Officer, will be at the Falmouth Swanpool event on Saturday at 10:30am, which includes a silent disco clean-up, and at Newquay Towan Beach from 1:30pm.

On Sunday, 15th February, the famous ‘grandma beach cleaner’ Pat Smith – also known as Action Nan – will attend the Par clean-up at 9:30am.

Pat has gained a following on Instagram for her dedication to environmental advocacy.

The Love Your Beach initiative is part of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s ongoing work to protect marine and coastal environments.

Full details of all events and locations are available on the Love Your Beach website

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or trying a beach clean for the first time, this weekend is the perfect chance to show some Valentine’s Day love for Cornwall’s beautiful coastline.
