Help save lives at sea: Join the Reindeer Run Challenge
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is calling on people across Cornwall to support their volunteer lifeboat crews this winter by taking part in the RNLI Reindeer Run challenge.
A Festive Family Event at Par Race Track
On Saturday 13 December, runners of all ages are invited to join Rookie the Reindeer for a special family fun day at Par’s official athletics track.
Participants can choose between a 5K or 2K run on a perfectly maintained, level surface-no potholes, no muddy trails, no gravel in your shoes-just pure festive fun.
Expect a morning filled with holiday spirit, exercise, and even mince pies at the finish line. Runners are encouraged to wear their best Christmas-themed outfits, with a prize awarded for the best festive fancy dress.
After the run, the fun continues with access to the venue’s pump track for bike and scooter riders, plus a bustling café offering delicious treats and health and fitness activities for all to enjoy.
Take On the Virtual 24-Mile Reindeer Run Challenge
If you can’t make it to Par, you can still support the RNLI by taking on the virtual Reindeer Run challenge throughout December.
Participants are encouraged to complete 24 miles-one mile for every hour volunteer lifeboat crews are on call each day, even during the festive season.
Walk it, run it, jog it, or roll it. Spread it over 24 days or complete multiple miles at once-the choice is yours.
Everyone who raises £125 or more will receive an exclusive Reindeer Run medal as a thank-you for supporting the RNLI’s lifesaving work.
Every penny raised helps provide vital training, equipment, and protective kit for the volunteer crews who are ready to answer the call for help 24/7—even during winter storms and Christmas dinner.
Why Your Support Matters
Esther Farrant, RNLI Community Manager, explains:
“Our crews are on-call 24/7, ready to answer calls for help this winter. It can be hard on family and friends if they’re called out during a storm, or even halfway through Christmas dinner, but they’re always ready to give their time to help save others."
"Fundraising challenges like the Reindeer Run help provide the training and equipment our crews need to bring more families home safe this Christmas.”
