Commemorations taking place across Hayle to mark 25th anniversary of 9/11
Hayle community to honour Rick Rescorla with parade
The Hayle community is preparing to honour one of its own, Rick Rescorla, with the ‘Remember Rick Rescorla’ parade and ceremony on 11th September 2026.
The event marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 terrorist attacks in the USA.
Rick Rescorla, a Hayle-born hero and former Penpol School pupil, played a critical role in saving over 2,500 lives during the attacks by coordinating the evacuation from the World Trade Centre.
Rescorla was head of security for Morgan Stanley and was working in the South Tower on 11 September 2001. He evacuated more than 2,500 people before returning inside. His body was never found.
The parade, which involves some of Penpol School's older students, promises to bring the community together to remember Rescorla's bravery and sacrifice.
While road closures will occur, they are not expected to impact school collections, according to Penpol School.
Attendees are encouraged to walk or use public transport as parking will be limited.
