Fire Services in Bodmin attended a large gorse fire on the moor at 21.30 last night (11 Feb).

Firefighters used beaters and hose reels to extinguish the flames.

Only a few hours later, responders from Mullion, St Keverne, Helston and Falmouth attended a large gorse fire beside the A3083 road heading towards The Lizard.

At 00.47 this morning (12 Feb), crews again used beaters and hose reels to extinguish the flames.

Devon & Cornwall Police and National Grid were also in attendance.

In addition to these updates, Cornwall Fire Service have released that they have received 5 hoax phone calls through the night.

The service said in a statement: "A hoax call to any Emergency Service could cost lives, tying up valuable emergency resources and preventing them from attending a real incident.

"If there had been a genuine emergency, the nearest resources would not have been available and would have to be called in from another station further away putting lives at risk.

"Making hoax calls is illegal. People can, and have been heavily prosecuted for making hoax calls with a fine of up to £5,000 or six months in prison."

They have also confirmed that in this and every case of a hoax phone call being made, the callers and their details will be passed on to the police.
