An entire Victorian village display at Flambards theme park has been sold to a historical tourist attraction in Durham.

Bosses announced the Flambards site in Helston was closing with immediate effect in November 2024, due to financial pressures. The Victorian Village was due to go up for auction.

Kynren, a live-action historical theme park in Durham, says it'll ensure the collection remains together and is brought to life.

Originally developed in the late 1970s, the Flambards Victorian Village grew into one of the most detailed period recreations in the UK and features over 40 sets and scenes, capturing the daily life of the era with thousands of genuine artefacts.

A spokesperson said: "Kynren will reimagine the Village as the backdrop to a dynamic and immersive visitor experience. Visitors will step into the sights, sounds and stories of Victorian Life as they explore the cobbled streets, encountering live action scenes that bring history to life in a way only Kynren can.

"The Victorian Village, a much-loved heritage exhibit from Flambards Theme Park in Cornwall, was at risk of being broken up and sold in individual lots following the park’s recent closure. Thanks to Kynren’s commitment to authentic historical storytelling, this extraordinary collection will remain intact, providing the setting for a walk-through experience that will transport visitors to the heart of Victorian England."

Anna Warnecke, CEO of Kynren, shared her excitement about the project: “The detail and authenticity of the Flambards Victorian Village make it an incredible foundation for a truly immersive experience at The Storied Lands. We are not simply relocating it; we are transforming it into a vibrant, theatrical journey where visitors will feel as if they have stepped back into the heart of Victorian England. We cannot wait to unveil this spectacular experience as part of our new Park."
