First Bus in Cornwall to cease operations this weekend
Increased competition and higher operating costs make continuation unviable
Last updated 12th Feb 2026
First Bus has announced it will cease operations in Cornwall on 14th February due to ongoing financial difficulties.
The company cites rising above-inflation costs, declining passenger numbers, and increased competition from other operators as key factors leading to the decision.
This closure means the termination of all bus services operated by First Bus in the Cornwall area, leaving behind five depots in Camborne, Falmouth, Penzance, Summercourt, and Truro.
First Bus replaced its open-top tourist buses with covered double-deckers earlier this year in an effort to manage costs and reduced demand. However, these services will be withdrawn alongside the rest of the Cornwall network.
Season ticket holders with validity extending beyond the closure date will be eligible for refunds. Additional information regarding routes and services after this date can be found on the Transport for Cornwall website.
First Bus has expressed gratitude to its customers, acknowledging the disappointment this news may bring.
Information for what will happen after this date is available on the Transport for Cornwall website.
