Royal Navy veteran and singer/songwriter Will Keating from Falmouth has released a new single, "Invictus – Captain of my Soul," inspired by the Invictus Games and his experiences with injured veterans.

The fundraising single, which shines a light on the challenges and resilience of veterans, was launched from Edinburgh on 29th April, coinciding with a 2,000-mile maritime expedition.

The Full Circle expedition is coordinated by veteran sailing charity Turn to Starboard, in partnership with Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.

Will, a patron of Turn to Starboard, says the song is "a tribute to perseverance, inner strength, and the unbreakable human spirit," aligning with the spirit of the original Invictus poem and reflecting veterans' lived experiences.

The Full Circle expedition journey includes two traditionally rigged tall ships, crewed by 70 wounded, injured, and sick (WIS) veterans and serving personnel. Sailing since 17th March 2026, the expedition covers 22 ports across the UK, carrying the Invictus Games Flag to each location to build awareness and support for the 2027 Games.

Will's music, he believes, creates connection and promotes discussions among veterans and their families about seeking support, addressing struggles, and recognising the strength in shared experiences.

"Sometimes we keep our struggles to ourselves and turn to starboard is a great way of connecting veterans together. When we sail, there's lots of times when there's nothing to do. And you talk about your experiences and you connect with each other. By the end of the two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, you're the best of mates and you'll support each other for the rest of your lives."

During his service, Will faced personal losses, marking this expedition as an opportunity for reflection and healing, and supporting others in similar circumstances.

Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Invictus Games uses sport to aid the recovery of injured personnel and veterans. The Full Circle's voyage forms part of the Games' Birmingham 2027 Impact Strategy, fostering recovery opportunities and building national engagement.

As Will shares his journey, he hopes the song resonates with veterans nationwide, offering reassurance, comfort, and a reminder of the support around them.
