Devon & Cornwall Police secure 138 convictions for sexual offences in first half of 2026
Forces’ commitment brings justice and support to victims

Devon & Cornwall Police's dedicated efforts have resulted in the conviction of 138 perpetrators of sexual offences between January and June 2026, with 55 of these convictions specifically for rape.
The 55 convicted individuals were responsible for 99 rapes and have cumulatively received nearly 400 years of imprisonment, underscoring the police force's commitment to justice.
Chief Inspector Zoe Taylor emphasized the importance of reporting sexual violence, highlighting the support available through the police and partners such as Sexual Assault Referral Centres and the Victim Care Unit.
Taylor assured that reports are taken seriously, with victims being listened to, believed, and supported.
Rape survivor Penny shared her experience, expressing how the validation from officers during initial reporting was a crucial step in her healing journey. Her attacker received a 13-year sentence.
Penny encouraged others to report incidents, stating, “Your experience and voice matter.”
Sarah West, Victim Care Unit Manager, detailed the support provided to all crime victims, with confidentiality and assistance being freely available to those in need of ongoing support.
