Falmouth Hospital business support supervisor wins at Dart 18 World Championships
Sandra Sly, a business support supervisor at Falmouth Hospital, has made an extraordinary comeback in the world of sailing, securing the title of world champion alongside her husband.
After a 23-year hiatus from competitive sailing, Sandra and Stuart entered the 2026 Dart 18 World Championships held in Carnac, France.
The championship, known for its challenging sea breezes and tidal conditions, took place from 4th to 10th July, attracting 140 international crews to compete in a series of races on Carnac Bay.
Sandra and Stuart's impressive performances throughout the six races earned them the overall title, marking a remarkable return to international competition after more than two decades.
Sandra expressed delight at their achievement, noting the tense conditions they faced and how their consistent top 10 results contributed to their victory.
Reflecting on their previous success 25 to 30 years ago, Sandra felt pleased to discover they still had the skills and determination to excel at the highest level.
