Cornwall Dentistry Summit convenes to address dental crisis
Experts and officials meet to find solutions for NHS dental care issues
Today, Cornwall Council is hosting the much-anticipated Cornwall Dentistry Summit, gathering industry leaders and public officials to tackle the region's ongoing dental crisis.
This event was announced by Cllr Leigh Frost, Leader of Cornwall Council, during a Full Council meeting in April this year, aiming to bring together key figures for an open dialogue on challenges residents face in accessing dental care.
The panel features prominent members such as Eddie Crouch from the National British Dental Association, Jasem Greval of Smile:Together Dental CIC, and Matt Jerreat, NHS England SW Regional Chief Dental Officer.
Discussion will focus on crucial themes, including access to NHS dentistry, long waiting lists, affordability, preventative care for children, workforce capacity, and system design.
With over 160 public questions submitted, attendees will have the chance to put these queries directly to the panellists. Questions span topics from health impacts to transportation issues affecting dental access.
Cllr Frost expressed gratitude towards panellists representing vital organisations, highlighting the opportunity for practical solutions that will benefit Cornwall residents.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration in resolving the challenges related to dentistry in the county.
Cllr Thalia Marrington, Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder, thanked residents for their submissions and encouraged online participation, reinforcing the significance of collective action in lobbying for improved dental services.
The summit represents a critical step towards finding long-term solutions, aiming to develop practical commitments from involved organisations to address Cornwall's dental crisis.
