Man arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving in Cornwall after 8-year-old boy dies
A 5-year-old boy and a 70-year-old woman are still receiving treatment in hospital
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after an 8-year-old boy died in a multi-vehicle crash in Cornwall.
A five-year-old boy also sustained serious injuries in the incident on Friday (29th May).
The man, local and in his 60s, is also suspected of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and was treated for minor injuries.
He has been released under investigation.
The eight-year-old boy died at the scene, and the five-year-old boy remains in critical condition at Bristol Children's Hospital.
Two women were also injured - one in her 40s who has been discharged from Derriford Hospital, and one in her 70s who is still being treated there.
The two women and two children were travelling in the same car.
Relatives are being supported by specially trained officers.
A local man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was treated for minor injuries.
He has been released under investigation while the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Andy Heath of Devon and Cornwall Police Serious Collisions Investigation Team said: “Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by this incident.
“It is not possible to provide detail of the cause of the collision, and I would ask the public not to speculate."
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
