An event designed to support schools in understanding and implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in education will take place on Monday 5th January 2026 at Truro College.

The Cornwall AI in Education Summit aims to equip teachers, school leaders, governors, support staff, and digital leads from across the region with knowledge and practical strategies to use AI responsibly, effectively, and safely in education. Co-organised by TECgirls, Truro and Penwith College, Tech Cornwall, and Truro High School, the summit is free to attend and coincides with an in-service training day for most schools in the area.

Artificial intelligence is transforming education, from curriculum design to administrative processes. According to the Department for Education, schools play a vital role in harnessing this technology while ensuring it is used safely and meaningfully. The summit’s agenda moves beyond introductory discussions about AI to focus on three key areas:

The event dives into why AI should be integrated into schools, covering meaningful applications across all subjects as well as safeguarding and compliance. Attendees will learn how to craft AI-driven classroom strategies, govern its use in line with safeguarding expectations, and align policies with best practices to reduce workloads and secure systems.

Workshops, keynote speeches, and interactive activities will address a broad array of topics, including AI literacy, curriculum design, data privacy, ethics, and preparing students for future careers in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Participants will join AI industry professionals for hands-on sessions tailored to suit different educational levels and roles. Topics include creating inclusive AI-focused curriculums for primary and secondary schools, leveraging AI to reduce administrative pressures, safeguarding student well-being, and supporting SEND students through innovative technology.

Notable speakers include Caitlin Gould from TECgirls discussing the risks AI poses to mental health and well-being, and Alex More analysing AI policy and its implications for Ofsted and Department for Education assessments.

The organisers aim to position Cornwall’s schools ahead of the curve, enabling them to prepare young people for an ethical and opportunity-rich digital future. The summit aligns with the UK Shared Prosperity Fund's goals of encouraging community-driven economic growth while equipping education professionals with the tools to integrate AI safely and effectively.
