Camborne Brass Band thanks community for 'overwhelming' support after devastating break-in
Support is pouring in to help a Cornwall brass band after a brutal break in.
Camborne Brass Band are determined to rebuild after their band room was left in ruins following a targeted break-in.
The space was left covered in broken glass, smashed trophies and ruined equipment after the attack last week, making it unusable for rehearsals
Alan Pope, the band's musical director, described it as "total devastation," but says he is determined not to let it stop them.
He has thanked the community for their "overwhelming" support.
Describing the break-in, he said: "Everything was just chucked from the stage all over the floor. The cabinets were smashed to bits and they even stamped on the trophies.
"And then to cap it all, not only did they throw everything like I said across the floor and just wreck things, they then sprayed everything with the fire extinguishers that was in there."
"It's been totally overwhelming"
Despite this, Mr Pope highlighted the overwhelming support from the community, both locally and further afield, which has lifted his spirits.
"The generosity and the kindness and from people has been fabulous," he said.
"Lots of people are offering their help for all the practical things that we've got to do.
"I'm a proud Cornishman myself, so I'm gonna be very biased, but they are amazing people," he said.
"They get behind things when things go wrong. It's been totally overwhelming."
With offers of practical help and financial contributions, the band is determined to rebuild and secure their space.
Efforts are now underway to clear the damage, aiming to resume activities for their beginners group as soon as possible.
The band are also planning a fundraising concert in October, alongside future plans for a free concert to thank everyone for their support.
