£60k raised after Cornish man died after allergic reaction in Argentina
24-year-old Harry Kitto passed away on Friday (7/11) after a week-long battle in hospital
The family of a Cornish man who died in Argentina after suffering a severe allergic reaction say they're in 'disbelief' by the support they've received.
24-year-old Harry Kitto passed away on Friday (7/11) after a week-long battle in hospital.
A fundraiser set up by his family has received more than £60-thousand pounds so far, which will go towards bringing Harry back home and the cost of his funeral.
The rest will be donated Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, who the family say have supported them through what they are describing as an 'unimaginable time'.
For more than a week, Harry was fighting for his life in Buenos Aires 'after suffering a catastrophic allergic reaction to food cross contaminated with peanuts while travelling with his immensely strong, courageous, and brave girlfriend, Naomi'.
His family say 'he showed extraordinary strength and determination' but it was later confirmed by doctors that he became 'brain dead' - and there was nothing they could do to save him.
Harry passed quietly with his family around him.
They add he was 'kind, adventurous, funny, and full of life,' adding how 'he had been travelling through South America and was just days away from returning home when tragedy struck.'
Jay Wicks, organiser of the fundraiser, called the £60,000 raised for him 'far beyond anything we ever expected'.
'Harry touched so many lives in such a short time'
He added: "The donations, messages, and kindness keep coming, and while we’re amazed, maybe we shouldn’t be. Harry touched so many lives in such a short time. Seeing that love reflected back now means everything to us.
"We’re relieved to share that Harry has now been moved to a local funeral director in Buenos Aires. This marks the start of the long journey home, where he belongs. He isn’t alone. Naomi, his dad, and his brother Bobby are with him, taking each step together.
"In addition to being an amazing son, brother, friend, and partner, Harry was also an incredibly talented photographer. His work captured the world exactly as he saw it: full of life, curiosity, and quiet beauty.
"Your support has carried us through every stage of this unimaginable week."
