Young Futures Hubs to enhance youth services in Peterborough
Two hubs planned as part of £70 million transformation programme
Plans to establish two Young Futures Hubs in Peterborough have been confirmed by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, as part of a £70 million national initiative focused on enhancing local youth service offerings.
The funding for these hubs is contingent on the approval of an implementation plan scheduled for February or March 2027. Council officers are tasked with progressing this plan, after which details and timelines will be announced.
Young Futures Hubs are designed to connect young individuals, aged 10 to 18, and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with services addressing crucial challenges.
These hubs offer access to sports and creative activities, link youth with mental health support, skills opportunities, employment routes, and crime prevention efforts.
Councillor Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “The fact that Peterborough is one of just 26 authorities to be granted funding for Young Futures Hubs, shows that the government shares our thorough commitment to supporting young people.
"I'm looking forward to seeing these plans progress over the coming months.
"This is an exciting time for young people in the city, with plans for a Youth Zone on the Embankment in the pipeline along with other initiatives. We are also actively working to develop a local youth offer which addresses the needs of young people in Peterborough and supports government priorities.
"Our youth offer will reflect the changing needs of young people, enabling them to develop new skills for life and work."
These hubs are expected to provide holistic support without requiring individuals to recount their stories repeatedly across different services. The facilities aim to increase opportunities, improve mental health and well-being, and reduce crime.
The Young Futures Hubs will feature inclusive environments, both physical and digital, filled with enriching, youth-led activities designed to foster confidence, resilience, and community belonging. Initiatives such as arts, sports, volunteering, and skills-based projects will be key components of the hubs, nurturing growth and involvement among Peterborough's youth.
