Plans to expand a Traveller site near Wimblington have been approved by Fenland District Council despite objections from the parish council and local concerns.

The development off Horsemoor Road will double the number of permitted static and touring caravans from three each to six each.

Wimblington Parish Council said the expansion could “dominate” nearby settled communities and raised concerns about damage to rural roads.

Planning officers said the benefits outweighed the harm due to a shortage of Traveller pitches and the applicant’s circumstances.

Councillors unanimously approved the plans.
