A shoplifter, who stole more than £1000 worth of goods in Peterborough, has been jailed.

Lloyd Speight began his crime spree on 25 March, when he entered Home Bargains, in Bourges Boulevard, and stole washing products worth nearly £60.

Between 26 March and 8 April, the 38-year-old committed a further seven thefts across the city, stealing more than £800 worth of items, including meat and energy drinks.

The spree came to an end on 10 April, when Speight stole £200 worth of suits from Next, in Brotherhood Retail Park and was arrested four days later.

At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (15 April), Speight, of no fixed address, was jailed for eight months and ordered to pay £1062.55 in compensation after pleading guilty to the nine offences.

PC Jack Jenkins said: “Thanks to the retailers that reported these incidents, we were able to identify Speight and put him before the courts.

“As a team, we will continue to work with the businesses across the city to identify these prolific offenders and take action.”
