Second man jailed for violent theft of child’s bike in Peterborough
Pair attacked teenagers and stole a bicycle, court hears
Imran Ali, 41, has been sentenced to 50 months in prison for his role in a violent robbery that targeted a group of boys in Peterborough, following a court verdict at Cambridge Crown Court on 2nd November.
Ali, alongside Declan Hyland, 29, and another unidentified man, ambushed the teenagers on a bridge between Ivatt Way and Bourges Boulevard at approximately 5pm on 18th April.
The trio blocked the path of the boys, who were riding bikes and a scooter, and launched an attack using knuckles armed with keys.
The boys attempted to fend off their attackers, but Ali managed to escape with a Carrera bike valued at around £600, with Hyland following after shouting insults.
The victims sustained minor injuries from the keys used as makeshift weapons.
CCTV footage aided detectives in identifying Ali, leading to his arrest. A media appeal helped identify Hyland, who admitted to robbery and attempted robbery charges.
Hyland was sentenced to five years in jail on 12th October at the same court.
Detective Constable George Corney remarked, “This was a nasty attack on three teenage boys that understandably left them extremely shaken."
DC Corney also praised public efforts in identifying one of the assailants, thanking them for aiding the pursuit of justice.
