A Cambridgeshire police officer has been dismissed after he was found to have driven a police vehicle while on duty and under the influence of alcohol.

PC Joseph Passby breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Discreditable Conduct and Fitness for Duty, amounting to gross misconduct.

An accelerated misconduct hearing was held at Lysander House, in Tempsford, on 25th August.

It concluded that, had he not previously resigned, Passby would have been dismissed.

He will also be placed on the College of Policing's barred list.

Chief Constable Simon Megicks said: "Police officers are expected to uphold the law and the highest standards of behaviour.

"By driving a police vehicle while on duty and under the influence of alcohol, former PC Passby put the public, colleagues and himself at risk.

"His actions were wholly unacceptable and the outcome reflects the seriousness with which we treat conduct that undermines public trust and confidence in policing."
