A man, who raped two women in Peterborough, has been jailed for 26 years.

Wayne Lightfoot, 36, met his first victim while on a night out on 4 September 2022.

They went to the victim’s home and had consensual sex. Later that night, he forced himself upon her, despite being clearly told, “no” and that he needed to leave, he raped her.

On 26 August last year, Lightfoot went on a date with his second victim in Peterborough before going back to his house in Stanton Square, Hampton Hargate.

When they arrived, the victim changed her mind and said she wanted to leave but he violently assaulted her, took her phone away and raped her.

After a trial, Lightfoot was found guilty at Peterborough Crown Court of four counts of rape, seven counts of sexual assault and false imprisonment.

On Friday (20 March) he was sentenced at the same court to 26 years in prison.

He was also handed an indefinite Restraining Order and Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

DC Kara Halls said: “Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the incredible courage of the victims for coming forward and reporting what had happened. It is thanks to their bravery Lightfoot’s predatory behaviour has been exposed.

“Consent is everything. Consent can be given and retracted at any time; just because a person has consented before or you expect them to consent again, does not entitle you to anything.

“I would encourage anyone who thinks they might’ve been a victim of a sexual offence to contact us. We take all reports of sexual offences very seriously.

“We have a dedicated team of specially trained officers ready to investigate allegations promptly, fully and professionally, and a network of partnership agencies and support services to offer assistance and support.”

Started in 2021, police say Operation Soteria is a critical mission for policing and to prevent violence against women and girls in the first place.
