A man from Peterborough who was nearly twice the drink drive limit led police on a dangerous high-speed pursuit through Hampton.

Cieren Brownsword, 35, has been handed a suspended jail sentence, has been banned from driving for three years, and ordered to complete unpaid work.

Peterborough Crown Court heard how he was tailgating other drivers on the A15 in Hampton at around 2.35am on 21 December.

Officers attempted to stop him in his black Land Rover Discovery, but he continued to drive off.

A police pursuit ensued with Brownsword driving at nearly 60mph in a 30 zone.

He drove on the wrong side of the road, ran red lights, mounted pavements and nearly collided with oncoming traffic.

The pursuit ended after seven minutes, as Brownsword was faced with some concrete bollards in Southwold Drive, Hampton.

He blew 68ugs, nearly twice the drink drive limit.

The sentence

Brownsword, of Trelowen Way, Hempsted, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to drink driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He was given a two month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He's also been banned from driving for three years, and was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and 15 days of rehabilitation activity.
