Man from Wisbech jailed after threatening former partner with knives
Gediminas Jankauskas has also been made subject to a seven-year restraining order
Cambridgeshire Police says an abuser who told his former partner she “wasn’t going to live anymore” while brandishing knives has been jailed.
A court heard how Gediminas Jankauskas, 35, of Savory Road, Wisbech, became increasingly jealous and controlling during his relationship with the victim, from 2023.
Cambridgeshire Police said:
"In December 2025, she told Jankauskas she wanted to end the relationship and on 7 January this year, he packed a bag and said he would be leaving the country the following day.
"However, later that evening, Jankauskas returned home drunk after going out. He began shouting, swearing and smashing items in the kitchen.
"The victim, who was upstairs, watched him take two knives from a drawer before he began directing abuse towards her, telling her she “wasn’t going to live anymore” and that it was the “last day for you today”.
"Fearing for her life, she locked herself in a bedroom and called 999 at about 10.30pm.
"Jankauskas repeatedly tried to force his way into the room by barging the door with his shoulder and kicking it.
"While the victim hid inside, a family member attempted to intervene, but Jankauskas threatened to push her down the stairs. Officers arrived minutes later and arrested him."
At Huntingdon Law Courts on Wednesday, 15 July, Jankauskas was sentenced to three years and five months in prison after admitting two counts of threats to kill and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship.
He was also made subject to a seven-year restraining order.
DC Olga Senkova, who investigated, said:
“Jankauskas subjected the victim to a prolonged campaign of controlling, coercive and violent behaviour, isolating her from those closest to her and leaving her living in fear.
“When the victim made the brave decision to end the relationship, his behaviour escalated further, with threats to kill her while armed with knives. It is difficult to imagine how terrifying this ordeal must have been for her.
“I would like to commend the victim for her courage throughout the investigation and court proceedings. I hope this sentence, along with the restraining order, provides her with some reassurance as she continues to rebuild her life.
"Domestic abuse can take many forms, including controlling and coercive behaviour. If you are experiencing abuse, please remember that support is available and you do not have to suffer in silence.”
