Man jailed after accidentally stabbing friend in Peterborough
Man sent threatening messages before accidentally injuring his friend
A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for causing a minor injury to his friend with a knife during an altercation in Peterborough.
Safa Lawan sent threatening messages demanding money on social media to one person in a group on 27th September.
The following day, he approached the group on Highbury Street, Millfield, Peterborough, and swung a knife around, accidentally injuring his friend on the shoulder.
The group managed to escape unharmed.
Lawan was arrested the same day on Russell Street, Peterborough.
He pleaded guilty to affray and possession of a knife in public at Cambridge Crown Court.
Detective Constable Hannah Worthington commented on the recklessness of Lawan's behaviour, noting, "Lawan’s behaviour was completely reckless – demonstrated by the fact he accidentally caught his friend with the knife he was swinging."
She added, "I’m pleased nobody was seriously injured and Lawan was soon apprehended. He has now faced justice and been jailed for his actions."
