Man jailed for forcing partner into car leading to police chase in Peterborough

A man has been sentenced to six years in prison following a distressing incident where he forcibly took his partner and led police on a dangerous chase through Peterborough.
On 5th February 2026, Aamir Mahmood approached the victim on Thorpe Road around 3pm, attempting to persuade her into his Volkswagen Golf.
When the victim refused and tried to escape, Mahmood seized her hands, dragged her to the vehicle, and forced her inside.
A resident, responding to the victim’s screams, checked on her welfare, but Mahmood insisted she was fine before driving away.
Firearms officers located the car on Princes Street about 20 minutes later after police were alerted.
Ignoring police signals, Mahmood accelerated dangerously, threatening the victim that he would "drive into a wall on your side so you die first" if they crashed.
Mahmood made perilous overtakes on narrow roads, nearly colliding with another car before finally crashing at the junction of Park Road and Princes Street.
He fled the scene but was chased and apprehended shortly after.
The victim was transported to Peterborough City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Mahmood, residing at Huntly Grove, admitted charges of false imprisonment and dangerous driving.
Peterborough Crown Court sentenced him on 17th July, imposing a driving ban alongside his prison term.
Detective Constable Joshua Crown, who led the investigation, described the ordeal as terrifying for the victim and emphasised Mahmood’s disregard for safety.
"Thanks to the swift actions of witnesses and responding officers, he was quickly brought into custody and has now faced the consequences of his actions," Crown said.
The case underscores the importance of community vigilance and law enforcement's role in addressing threats to public safety.
