Man who stole taxi driver's car at knifepoint jailed
The taxi driver feared for his life
A man has been jailed for four years after threatening a taxi driver at knifepoint and stealing his vehicle in Huntingdon.
40 year old Jason Edgar from Papworth Everard ordered an Uber to Riverside Road just past midnight on 28th November, but when it arrived he tried to get in the driver's seat.
Edgar then climbed into the rear of the car, holding a knife to the driver's neck.
He demanded that the driver switch off the vehicle's CCTV camera and instructed him to drive towards Cambourne.
Upon reaching Ermine Street South, Edgar told the driver to pull over and announced he was stealing the car.
The driver, in his 40s, feared for his life and relinquished the keys, afterwards walking away and contacting police.
Edgar was located by officers in the early hours on School Lane, Cambourne, where he was arrested.
At Huntingdon Law Courts on 13th March, Edgar pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of a knife in a public place.
Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu, who led the investigation, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who feared for his life that evening.
“Thanks to the victim’s quick actions and the fast response from officers, we were able to locate and arrest Edgar.
"I hope this sentence reassures the public that there is zero tolerance for anyone who carries a weapon or threatens violence in our communities.”
