Plans to replace Hinchingbrooke Hospital with new facility move forward
Redevelopment part of national programme; community input sought until August
Hinchingbrooke Hospital is set to be replaced by a brand-new facility as redevelopment plans continue to progress.
Since its opening in 1983, the hospital has served communities across Peterborough, and now this large-scale ambition forms part of the national New Hospital Programme.
Deborah Lee, Senior Responsible Officer for the redevelopment programme, highlighted the opportunity to construct a hospital suited for future generations.
Hinchingbrooke is among seven hospitals across England slated for reconstruction due to the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC).
The new hospital, to be built on the existing site, aims to open by the end of 2032.
The planned facility will be a modern, digitally enabled hospital, adhering to the latest NHS standards with single rooms for each inpatient.
Key services such as a full Emergency Department and maternity care will remain onsite.
While core elements of the programme are already confirmed, the hospital is seeking public input on aspects like appearance and operations through a broad engagement campaign.
Local people and hospital users are invited to participate in the campaign, open from now until 16th August 2026.
Participation is available through online surveys, in-person sessions, focus groups, and community pop-up events.
Ms Lee emphasised how vital public contributions are to shaping the new hospital, noting that many decisions are still open.
