Hemingford Grey man jailed for attempted burglary of neighbour's unoccupied home
Sam Biddle sentenced after exploiting position of trust
Sam Biddle, a 51-year-old resident of Hemingford Grey, has been sentenced to prison for attempting to burgle his neighbour's home.
On 1st July, Biddle was entrusted with accepting a parcel delivery while his neighbour was away.
Upon realising the property was unoccupied, he devised a plan to break in.
He left the parcel by the front door at 6:22 pm, returning later between 8:08 pm and 9:35 pm, disguised with gloves and a face covering.
Biddle attempted to enter by trying the front door, removing a CCTV camera, attempting to force open a side door, and smashing a windowpane.
The homeowner was alerted by notifications from the CCTV camera and contacted the police.
Biddle was identified via CCTV and apprehended by detectives.
At Peterborough Crown Court on 1st October, Biddle admitted to attempted burglary and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison, activating a previous suspended sentence.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Lockwood, from the Southern Acquisitive Crime Team, remarked on the breach of trust:
"This was a calculated offence by someone exploiting a position of trust.
"Despite his repeated attempts to conceal his identity and enter the property, the security system enabled a swift police response and Biddle's arrest."
Biddle remains in custody following his conviction.
