Cambridge United secure Gassan Ahadme on loan from Charlton Athletic
Striker returns to the U's aiming for new heights
Cambridge United have welcomed Gassan Ahadme back to the squad on a one-year loan from Charlton Athletic.
The 25-year-old striker had a fruitful loan spell with the U’s during the 2023/24 season, netting 13 goals across 33 appearances.
After leaving Cambridge United initially, Ahadme joined Charlton Athletic and spent last season on loan with Stevenage FC.
He now rejoins the team under the guidance of head coach Neil Harris ahead of the players' return to pre-season training.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ahadme said, “I am really happy to be back. I have good memories of the season I had here, but I am trying to hit new levels and I am expecting a lot of myself."
He added, “I want to hit the ground running and show what I am capable of. I am looking forward to what’s to come.”
Neil Harris commented on the signing, stating, “I am hugely excited to work with Gassan Ahadme this season; I think it’s a vital signing for the football club."
He emphasized the importance of Ahadme’s role, highlighting his profile as a number nine that aligns with Harris' strategic approach.
Harris remarked, "We have real versatility and reliability at the top end of the pitch now, which is crucial in what will be an important season where we are going to need to score vital goals at vital moments."
Speaking highly of Ahadme as a professional, Harris expressed his eagerness to continue developing his game and anticipating him scoring goals for Cambridge United once more.
