Rylan Ray, a former Peterborough city councillor and cadet leader, has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences, including rape and sexual assault. The offences were committed after Ray misused his role in the Army Cadet Force to target young people via social media.

Ray, 26, exploited his position as detachment commander to lure minors into sexual conversations, using a fake persona to obtain indecent images. After a series of investigations, involving complaints and victim testimonies, Ray was charged with 25 offences.

During his trial at Ipswich Crown Court, Ray admitted several charges, including inciting a minor to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images. He was found guilty on 23 further counts, including rape.

Detective Constable Gordon Logan, who led the investigation, praised the courage of the victims in coming forward, emphasizing the dangers young people face online.

Ray is set to be sentenced on 8th January 2027. Authorities urge vigilance against signs of adults paying undue attention to minors and encourage reporting any suspicious behaviour.
