A man who had been previously banned from driving on the roads has been jailed for drink driving.

65-year-old Vytautas Gailys was stopped by police in High Street, March, on Friday the 3rd of April after they received reports of him driving erratically.

Officers tested him with a breathalyser after smelling alcohol on his breath. It returned a reading of 103ugs which is nearly three times the legal limit.

Gailys, of Eastwood Avenue, March, was arrested and taken into custody, where officers took evidential samples.

Police also discovered Gailys had been banned from driving last year after being convicted of driving or attempting to drive with alcohol above the legal limit.

On Saturday the 4th of April, at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court, Gailys was jailed for 18 weeks and disqualified from driving for 43 months, having admitted drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

PC Fran Plitsch said: “Gailys’s actions were completely irresponsible. Drink driving puts lives at risk and it’s only luck that nobody was injured on this occasion.

“I’d like to thank the member of the public who called us to report their concerns about his driving.”
