Disqualified driver receives four-year ban after fleeing police in Cambridgeshire
Suspended prison sentence and curfew imposed at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court
Fabio Sanches-Kuiper, a disqualified driver, has been sentenced following multiple breaches of court-imposed driving bans.
Authorities received intelligence that Sanches-Kuiper was driving a BMW on 23rd September.
At 11.20pm, Road Policing Unit officers observed him entering the driver's seat at Brampton Hut Services.
Despite efforts to stop him using a stinger on the A141, Sanches-Kuiper continued driving towards Brampton, eventually abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into nearby bushes.
With assistance from Police Dog Ghost, officers apprehended the 19-year-old.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 19th October, Sanches-Kuiper, of Dovecote Avenue, Great Cambourne, was given a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after admitting to two counts of driving without insurance, two counts of driving while disqualified, and failing to stop for police.
He has also been assigned a six-month curfew, requiring him to remain home between 11pm and 6am, and disqualified from driving for four years.
PC Colin Dyer, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "Despite being disqualified from driving and previously serving a prison sentence for the offence, Sanches-Kuiper made the decision to get behind the wheel yet again and on one occasion attempted to evade officers.
“Driving bans are imposed to protect the public and reduce the risk posed by dangerous drivers. His repeated offending showed a complete disregard for those restrictions.”
Video footage of the arrest is available on the police YouTube Channel.
