A man, who discarded drugs while attempting to run from police in Peterborough, has been jailed.

Sergio Pereira, 21, was spotted by neighbourhood officers with a group of drug users in Dickens Street, Eastfield, on 10 December.

Realising he’d been seen, Pereira ran but was detained after a short chase. As he ran, he tried to discard numerous wraps crack cocaine and heroin in Padholme Road.

In total, more than 125 wraps of class A drugs were recovered.

Pereira, of Hull Square, Salford, Greater Manchester, appeared at Huntingdon Law Courts on Monday (23 March), where he was sentenced to 21 months in a young offenders institution after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine, and possession of criminal property.

Detective Constable Igor Simonov, who investigated, said: “This was a great spot by our neighbourhood officers who were in the area responding to community concerns about drug dealing.

“Drug dealing and the associated criminality have a big impact on the community, and I urge anyone with concerns to continue reporting them to us.”
