A post office in Chatteris was ram-raided in the early hours of this morning.

Debris is scattered across the pavement, with the shop’s front window completely destroyed and only the door left standing.

A JCB digger believed to have been used in the raid is parked opposite the building, where a cash machine was stolen.

Forensic officers have arrived to examine the site, and a police cordon remains in place around the damaged post office.

Police have confirmed that the road will remain closed for several hours while investigations continue.

No arrests have yet been made.

A spokesperson from Cambridgeshire Police said: "We were called at about 2am today (31 October) with reports of a ram raid at a store in High Street, Chatteris, where an ATM was taken.

"Officers, including specialist scenes of crime officers attended and an investigation is ongoing.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact police either online or via 101 quoting incident 23 of 31 October".
