The Queensgate shopping centre in Peterborough are putting on a catwalk for local women to celebrate International Women's Day.

The event is aiming to empower women with guest speakers from Women's Aid and Cambridgeshire Police,

I want everybody to go back home feeling good about themselves

As well as speakers, the day will also include massages, tai chi and crafts.

Organisers are hoping women will discover their 'inner Queen' and confidence on the catwalk in addition to speaking about important issues and knowing where to get help.

It's time we spoke about things more openly instead of trying to be discreet

Organiser of the event, Anameeka Ghossh, from the Peterborough Council for Voluntary Services, said:

"I celebrate every day as Women's Day. But it's nice to have a day to celebrate ourselves and feel good and do things that we enjoy."

"I want everybody to go back home feeling good about themselves."

"Every time we celebrate Women's Day, it turns out to be a serious discussion of many important topics, which is essential, but we thought we also needed something for women to just enjoy."

"Through our Women's Aid counters and the Trade Union Council, I hope they also feel more empowered and more confident."

"I think it's time we spoke about things more openly instead of trying to be too discreet and hidden away. So many having them there will encourage more women to come forward."

Celebrations will start from 12pm.
