A small protest took place near the RNLI headquarters in Poole, as demonstrators expressed their concerns about immigration issues. The protest was sparked by rumours claiming the charity houses asylum seekers—a claim the RNLI boss has firmly denied as "ludicrous."
The protest remained mostly calm and peaceful, with demonstrators airing their grievances through microphones and megaphones.
Councillor Millie Earl, Leader of BCP Council, issued a statement condemning any abuse towards RNLI staff and volunteers.
She said: "We continue to work closely with our partners at Dorset Police and the RNLI and condemn any abuse towards staff and volunteers of our valued charity partner who do extraordinary work saving lives at sea.
“Although we firmly believe in people's right to protest, they must be peaceful and carried out in accordance with the law.
“We are proud that Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are tolerant and welcoming towns, and we are deeply committed to making sure our area remains a sanctuary to all those who call it home.”
A small police presence was noted at the event, and some protesters were seen distributing personal alarms, though the atmosphere remained largely calm.
