A councillor has said that Broadstone Town Council elections are “important” and a “genuine opportunity to shape the future.”

Elections for town councils will be taking place on May 7 for residents in Bournemouth, Poole, and Broadstone after BCP Council approved establishing three new town councils in October 2025.

Broadstone Councillor Peter Sidaway has said the elections in May “is a genuine opportunity to shape the future of Broadstone”.

Cllr Sidaway said: “It’s our money that will be spent so it is critical to get the right people. For too long, many feel we have been overlooked under BCP, seen as an affluent area that does not require support.

“That is why it was important that Broadstone had its own town council and was not just part of Poole, where the same situation would exist.

“This election is a chance to ensure that the money raised here is invested here, spent on the projects that matter to our community, projects that enhance the lives of our residents, and that help build a stronger, more vibrant Broadstone for the next generation. “

This includes projects such as a new playpark for Springdale, a community bus, a MUGA, a skate park, improved planting, new trees and working with our fantastic volunteer groups to help with the Christmas lights, the Christmas parade, Broadstone in Bloom, the Broadstone Fun Day, and Rock on the Rec.

Cllr Sidaway has said that the new town council is about community, shared pride in Broadstone and the wellbeing of residents.

Some residents feel that these new councils mean they will be paying twice for services.

Cllr Sidaway said: “The reality is that most of the work a town council would deliver are services that BCP is never going to provide, for example: new play parks, skate parks, or multi-use games areas.”
