Emergency services have been searching a canal in Wolverhampton after reports that someone had got into difficulty in the water.

Searches were carried out at a canal at Bentley Bridge yesterday evening (4th January).

The police, fire service and ambulance service all attended but no body was found.

A spokesperson from the West Midlands ambulance service said, "We were called to reports of a person in the water off Bentley Bridge Way in Wolverhampton at 8.18pm.

"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were sent to the scene.

"Following a thorough search alongside police and fire colleagues, no patient was found."

West Midlands police officers have been continuing the search this morning (5th January) and say they believe no one is unaccounted for.

They called off the search this afternoon.
