West Midlands Safari Park warning people the dangers the warm weather presents to our pets
Temperatures across the West Midlands are expected to pass 30 degrees Celsius today (11 July) and over the weekend
The West Midlands Safari Park is reminding people how the warm weather can be fatal for our pets and animals unless we keep them cool.
A yellow heat health alert is in place across the region until early next week as another heatwave takes place.
Temperatures are expected to peak over the weekend and ease early next week, with the pollen count also forecast to be very high.
Keeper Shauna Jenkins from the safari park which is based in Bewdley, Worcestershire, says they've been creating ice blocks full of their favourite treats to keep the animals cool and they have plenty of things in place to keep them safe.
"All of our animals sort of adapt better to the heat than others but we make sure for all of them we give them as much choice to remain as cool as possible.
"We make sure all of our environments have lots of shade and lots of water, quite a few of our animals like to jump in pools so we also make sure they've got that available as well.
"For our pets such as dogs though we don't all have that option of a pool or even dogs who might not potentially like water so its making sure there is cool areas out of the sun for them."
The Met Office said on Monday (7 July) that this heatwave is not expected to see temperatures quite as high as the one experienced at the end of June/early July.
