Extra police patrols and closer CCTV monitoring are being introduced at a walk-through in Walsall town centre after it became a hotspot for crime and anti-social behaviour.

The walk-through, known locally as Bossman Alley, has seen drug dealing, robbery, theft and intimidating behaviour, according to West Midlands Police.

Officers say the problems have been affecting businesses and shoppers visiting the town centre.

What action is being taken

Police are increasing patrols in the area, while supporting partners with closer monitoring of CCTV covering the walkway.

The work is being carried out through Walsall's Prevention Hub, based at the Civic Centre, in partnership with Walsall Council.

Neighbourhood Inspector for the area, Pete Poolton, said: "We understand this walk through is a concern with regards to crime and anti-social behaviour.

"Working with our dedicated Walsall officers alongside our partners we are taking action to address issues of concern. We have officers regularly patrolling the location. CCTV cameras cover the location and these are monitored.

"We are committed to making sure Walsall remains a safe place to work and visit."
