Teen jailed for killing woman in fatal collision in Dudley
Police said he was travelling over double the speed limit
A teenager has been jailed after he killed a woman in a collision in Dudley, before fleeing the scene.
27-year-old Salma Rafique was crossing Thorns Road when she was hit by Tyrone Moran's Vauxhall Corsa.
The incident happened on September 29th 2023 just after 8pm.
Salma suffered serious injuries and nothing could be done to save her. The Corsa also sustained extensive damage and was abandoned a short distance away.
Tyrone handed himself into police that night.
West Midlands Police said Tyrone's car was travelling at more than double the 30mph speed limit at the time of the collision.
Moran, aged 19 from Oldswinford, admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Wolverhampton Crown Court. He was sentenced to six years and nine months in a young offender's institution last Friday (Feb 21).
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from our serious collision investigation unit, said: "A young woman tragically lost her life at the hands of a speeding driver.
"Our investigations showed Moran was travelling at over double the speed limit, and then rather than stop and help he drove off.
"Such recklessness behind the wheel can have devastating consequences and our thoughts remain with Salma's loved ones."
