A man from Birmingham who brutally assaulted and raped a woman near a car park in Walsall has been jailed for over 12 years.

56-year-old Simon Tang was found guilty of two counts of rape, possessing an offensive weapon and actual bodily harm.

The court heard how Tang repeatedly hit a sex worker with a baseball bat, leaving bruises on her legs and head, and raped her on Birmingham Street, Walsall, on 5th May last year.

Tang, of Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, has been sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

DS Morgan Colley, from the investigation team, said: “This is one of the most violent rapes I have ever seen in my time working in rape and serious sexual offences.

"The woman in this case, who was a sex worker, has shown that we will take it seriously when abuse is reported to us, and we work tirelessly to get the best result.

"She has shown unwavering strength throughout this case, having to go through a trial was a difficult process for her, but her courage was clear and her attacker is now serving a considerable time behind bars."
