Bereaved sister wants brother to be remembered as a 'good person' on his birthday
Ronan Kanda was murdered at 16 years old
A sister who lost her brother to a fatal stabbing said she wants him to be remembered 'as a good person' on what would have been his 20th birthday.
Ronan Kanda was murdered at 16-years-old, in a case of mistaken identity.
Ronan Kanda...
Today (04th Nov) Ronan would have been 20-years-old. His sister is running her first 20km run to mark the occasion.
Ronan's sister, Nikita, will run to a number of Ronan's favourite places before he was killed.
Including his school, the gym and the park.
'Honouring his life'
Nikita said running helped her through her grief: "It has been a saviour for me. I think it is a way of remembering Ronan and honouring his life.
"I will be running to his school because he absolutely loved school. He loved the gym too. I will be running to places where you would probably find him on an average day," she said.
Ronan was murdered just yards away from his family home. This is the spot where Nikita will be starting her run:
Ronan's Law...
"My run will start at my old house, that is where Ronan was born. He absolutely loved that house," she said.
A Ninja Sword was used to kill Ronan. Ever since his death, his family have campaigned to have the weapon banned, which they achieved in August 2025.
More than 7,500 blades were handed in during the month prior to the ban, under Ronan's Law.
'The power of being a good person'
Nikita said the ban under Ronan's Law has been well received because of the type of person Ronan was:
"Ronan was so loved in every room he walked into. It is really rare people are like that. We have created this law in his name because his life symbolises the power of being a good person.
"The run is going to be a lovely thing to do because obviously we cannot celebrate with him," she said.
Nikita Kanda is also raising money as part of the run. The money raised will go towards funding their campaign into becoming an official charity in Ronan's name.
